BIO
Fiona McBain started in the film and television industry in 1988 as a trainee at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
She worked in the Sound Transfer Suite and assisted in the Dubbing Theatres.
She then worked as a boom operator for live variety TV shows, Children's television and Drama both live and taped.
In 1992 Fiona left the ABC to freelance as a boom operator on feature films. She worked on many Australian features including "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert".
In 1995, Fiona was a boom operator on the film "Ye ban ge Sheng" (The Phantom Lover) which was filmed in China with an entire Chinese cast speaking entirely in Mandarin. Fiona studied an intensive course in Mandarin to be ready for the 3 month shoot.
In 1997 Fiona lectured at the Australian Film Television and Radio school in location sound and helped the graduates understand the importance of great location sound for their films.
In 1998 Fiona spent time in NYC and eventually moved to New York. She has been living and working in NYC since 1999 as both a sound recordist and as a musician and singer.
Fiona is also a singer and musician and is a founding member of celebrated Americana band "Ollabelle". Ollabelle was discovered by T Bone Burnett in 2002. They have 3 studio recordings on Sony/Columbia, Universal/Verve and a self release.
In 2007, Fiona recorded and released a CD "Then There Were Two", a voice and bass recording with Michael Visceglia (Suzanne Vega MD for 25 years) on bass.
Fiona's current new project "The Big Bright" is a beautiful recording of New-Wave Nocturnes called "I Slept Thru the 80s". The Big Bright have had their songs featured on CSI as well as a commercial for Tena.
